2 Alarm Building Fire – 101 Maple Ave. – Preston, Md.

11/5/2011 – At approximately 5:20 PM Caroline dispatched Station 200 (Preston) and Station 100 (Federalsburg) for a building fire at 101 Maple Avenue.

Officer 217 (T. Plutschak) arrived on location, reported heavy smoke showing and established “Maple Ave.” command. Minutes later command requested a 2nd alarm and the Tanker Task Force. Due to a drop in water pressure in the town hydrants, crews laid approximately 2000 feet of LDH to a dry hydrant located in a pond at the end of Noble Avenue. Crews from Caroline, Talbot and Dorchester County battled the large blaze with several hand lines, Tower 1 (Federalsburg), Tower 6 (Hurlock) and Tower 61 (Easton).

Total staffing for the call was approximately 96 personnel and units remained on the scene for 4 ½ hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
