House Fire – Poplar Hill Ave. – Salisbury

10/19/2009 – Around 12:20am, Maryland State Police smelled smoke in the vicinity of Poplar Hill Ave. and Isabella Street. They alerted Wicomico Central and began looking for potential trapped residents in the large house that had been converted into multiple apartments. Stations 16, 2 & 1 were alerted, with Paramedic 2 arriving first confirming smoke coming from the attic area. Assistant Chief 1 arrived taking command, and directed crews from Truck 1, Tower 16, & Engine 16. Additional crews from Station 2 arrived, and a second alarm was sounded bringing Delmar’s Truck 74 to the scene. Crews fought the fire for about 40 minutes, before temporarily halting to allow the fire marshal’s office to conduct an investigation. Afterwards, crews remained on scene for about 3 hours for overhaul. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.
