Grain Silo FIre – Shawnee Road – Milford, Del.

10/11/2008 – Around 16:42 on Saturday, October 11, Kent Center alerted Station 42 (Carlisle of Milford) for a strucure fire on Shawnee Road (DE Route 36). On dispatch, Kent Center advised units to switch to K-TAC4 and also alerted Station 52 (Houston) for one engine to cover Station 42. Engine 42-4 (with 42-17, William Carpenter) arrived on scene, reporting smoke showing and 42-17 assumed command. This was a grain silo containing corn. Several handlines were placed in service, two to the south side of the silo (from 42-4) and two to the top of the silo by way of Ladder 42 (from Tanker 42). A tanker shuttle was set up with five engines re-supplying Tanker 52-7, which fed into Tanker 42. Command placed the incident under control at 18:50 with units working. All units were clear from the scene around 19:25.
