Shed Fire – Hills Market Road – Harrington, Del.

5/4/2009 – Shortly after 1900 on Monday, May 4, Kent Center alerted Station 50 (Harrington) for a structure fire in the 2500 block of Hills Market Road and advised units to operate on K-TAC4. 50 Command with 50-17 (Robbie Brode) went responding shortly after dispatch and Kent Center advised this was a detached shed, reported to be fully involved, behind the residence with exposure to a camper. Upon arrival, 50 Command confirmed that the shed was fully involved. Engine 50-1 placed two 1-3/4′ lines in service with CAFS on arrival and were able to make a quick knock on the fire. Crews then performed overhaul and checked for extension to the adjacent camper, which sustained damage to the exterior and some minor damage to the interior around the windows.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office determined that this fire was the result of juveniles playing with matches. The juveniles have been referred to the OSFM’s Juvenile Fire Setters Intervention Program.

Units on scene:
